“And I (Allâh) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone).” Al-Quran: 51:56
Rasulullah Hazrat Mohammad SAW is reported as saying that any dua which begins with “Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim” (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful) is not rejected. By saying Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful) “the scales of my ummah will become heavy on the day of Qiyamah”.
Bismillah is the essence of the Holy Quran.
It is reported that Sayyidina Isa (AS) passed by a grave whose inmate was being tormented. After some days he happened to pass by the same grave again. This time there was no punishment. The inmate was in great comfort. This surprised him a great deal. He asked Allah Almighty: OhLord, what brought about Your mercy so that you have lifted the punishment from this person?” Allah Almighty replied: 0h Isa, when the man died, he left behind a child. When his mother took him to the madrasah and he, the child, said Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem in the presence of the teacher, it is not like me to keep on punishing his father while he called me Rahmaan and Raheem. Hence, I forgave him.
Most Repeated verse in the Holy Qur’an
Apart from being part of every chapter in the Holy Qur’an (except the chapter of repentance – surah at-tawba), it is also the most often repeated verse in the Holy Qur’an. When a teacher teaches a child to recite ‘Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim’ the child, his parents and the teacher are all guaranteed freedom from hellfire.
The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) has also said that when a believer will have to cross the Pul-e-Siraat on the Day of Judgement, and he will say ‘Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim’ then the flames beneath him will start dying down until Jahannam will cry out, ‘O believer, pass through quickly, your presence is causing my fire to die out !’
It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Jabir (May Allah be well pleased with him) that when Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem was revealed to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), the clouds raced towards the east, there was a lull in the winds, there was a tide in the oceans, all the animals were listening carefully, the devils were stoned from the sky and the Lord Almighty swore by His honor that whoever recites Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem on something, it will definitely be blessed.
