Christianity and Politics Today

in ,

They say if you want to lose friends, just start talking about politics or religion. I doubt I’m going to be very popular after this article because I’m planning to step on some toes…but we will see. Here we are in the midst of another election year. It seems like only yesterday that evangelicals and conservatives were panicked at the prospect of a John Kerry presidency. Many of us jumped on the bandwagon for George W. Bush and elected him to a second term. We elected him with enthusiasm. We really believed in what he said he stood for.

In retrospect, we really had no choice – I still believe a Kerry administration would have been disastrous for America. But we haven’t fared too well with “W” in the oval office either, have we? Our hero has spent more tax dollars and borrowed more from our children’s’ futures in the past seven-some years than any other president in history. We have a major economic depression looming on the horizon as the housing market has crashed and the price of gas has skyrocketed. Repercussions from high fuel prices are impacting every single sector of our economy, and we recently learned that George W was “unaware” of the prospect of $4-a-gallon gas. What world is he living in?

Yes, I agree we need to fight terrorism, but we’ve so poorly defined our enemy that we cannot fight to win. Our Commander in Chief continues to call Islam a “religion of peace,” and refuses to make decisive moves in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Iran because he fears offending people. So far, the only “shock and awe” we have seen happen at the gas pumps. A politically-correct war cannot be won, and this one is quickly bankrupting our country.

Shall I mention the NAFTA superhighway? Illegal immigration? Public services and benefits for illegal foreign invaders, paid for by the American taxpayer while our American border patrol agents are persecuted and prosecuted by their own country for simply doing their jobs? The “dumbing down” and systematic lowering of the American standard of living to the level of third world countries?

What about the key issues that American Christians voted on?

Nearly eight years later, what do we have to show for our hard work in electing, and then re-electing George W. Bush? Whatever happened to his grand ideas for “faith-based initiatives?” What about a marriage amendment? What did he do to end the horrors of abortion on demand?  What did he do for Terri Schiavo?

Many of us feel “duped,” Mr. President. We believed in you and we elected you and not only did you not do what you promised, it seems you didn’t even try.

Yes, many Christians are very, very disillusioned. Many are very cynical. And now, where do we go from here? Based on the speeches and the party platforms, the Democrats and Republicans would seem like very different animals. But in reality, there’s virtually no difference between them. The proof is in the pudding. We can elect John McCain and four years from now, we’ll likely be in no better situation than if we had elected Hillary. It is appalling to consider the millions of dollars spent by these campaigns to win the white house. The saddest part of all is that no matter who we elect, it will continue to be business as usual in the corrupt American government.

Many young people are enthralled with Barack Hussein Obama. (Did I offend some of you by using his middle name?) Many believe that having a president with an Islamic middle name will soften our image around the world. Many feel our enemies won’t hate us as much if our president is perceived to be one of “them.” Whatever belief system Obama adheres to, it should speak volumes to the Republican party that he is so incredibly popular among young people. They want things to change. They’re ready for a revolution, and they’re ready to fight for that revolution. It’s just too bad they’ve chosen to follow a leader with no real substance, no real experience and no real plan at all. But such is the level of frustration in America today.

Whatever happened to the Contract with America? Remember, back in 1994, when Republicans came forward with a plan, an actual PLAN and said, “this is what we want to accomplish and here’s how we’re going to do it.” (Of course, they did not accomplish those goals either, but at least they had the courage to come forward with a plan). Today, all we get is rhetoric designed to stir up the masses but no substance at all. The worst part is that occasionally, godly men of conviction attempt to enter the fray, but the media blacks out their campaigns so completely, except for taking every opportunity to ridicule them, that they have literally no chance. And business, as usual, goes on and on as America is sold out to the highest bidder.

Can you tell I’m frustrated? Here we are in the middle of another election year, millions of dollars being spent to win the white house and no matter who is elected, the downward spiral will continue, out of control. It does not matter what any of the candidates tell you. I no longer even care to hear any of the speeches.

America has become an “Obama Nation

As I write this, it seems America has become an “Obama Nation.” In reality, we’ve become an abomination in the eyes of God. He ordained this country as a lighthouse to the world and for nearly two hundred years, we have stood for truth and righteousness. We were founded by Godly men on Godly principles. We sent missionaries around the world to seek and to serve and to save the lost. We provided safety, security and liberty to the poor souls of the oppressed world. Our children were raised to revere the Lord. Our fathers and forefathers fought and died for all our flag stood for.
But today, I believe it is nearly all over for us. I believe that God is removing His hedge of protection from our country. And why shouldn’t He?

History tells us that whenever a culture or nation began killing its children, it was just a short matter of time before their ultimate demise. Look at the ancient civilizations. Whenever a culture began killing its innocents, it was destroyed within a generation. Why should it be any different for America?

We cannot claim ignorance any longer.

Modern medical science has now made it possible for us to SEE with our own eyes that the “thing” growing inside a mother is indeed a living child, a human being. Not a blob of tissue. Still, we allow this unholy slaughter to continue in the name of free choice. How can we justify this to ourselves, much less to God, our Creator, and the Creator of those innocent souls we murder? Here in Wisconsin, Missionaries to the Preborn work to shine the light of truth on this dark, shameful practice, and most people – even many Christians – despise the Missionaries for doing so. Yes, the images of abortion are sickening. But people – don’t hate the messengers! Stop the murderers! What is WRONG with us, that we don’t put a stop to this immediately?!

We’ve taken God out of our schools and replaced Him with free condoms. We worship at the altar of self and we medicate ourselves with drugs pushed upon us by the big pharmaceuticals, who grease the palms of our elected officials. They’ve brainwashed us into believing we really need their poisonous potions, and we panic when we can’t afford them. Yet we look with disdain on God’s natural laws for good health. We shun healthy foods, natural remedies, exercise, and clean living.

We’re ashamed of our Savior, and dare not speak His name in public, lest we offend someone, yet we revere the false god of Islam because who are we to say there’s only one true God? Perhaps most ridiculous of all, we can’t even declare with certainty that marriage should be between one man and one woman. It is no longer allowed to say that it is wrong for men to have sex with men and women to have sex with women.

To ease our minds and help maintain our self-esteem, (and to fill their churches), apostate preachers refuse to teach the true word of God. Instead, we preach only God’s love (because we’re all so wonderful, not sinners in need of a Savior), Prosperity, Supernatural Healing, Forgiveness – regardless of how we continue to live. Repentance? When was the last time you heard that in church?! Do we really believe that a Holy God can overlook the utter filth taking place in America today? Do we really believe that a Holy God requires NOTHING of us?

Even today, there are preachers in our Christian churches who claim the Bible doesn’t really mean what it clearly spells out in Romans… “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools…” (Romans 1:18-22).

“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator, who is forever praised, Amen! Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts…Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, He gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” (Romans 1: 24-32).

Judgment is coming!

Tribulation is on the way, and in fact, is already here. Do not look to Hillary or Obama or McCain to solve the problems that face our beloved America today. No corrupt politician can save us.

Yes, I suppose we must vote for the lesser evil, whoever that may be. But I have no faith left that government will ever have the courage or conviction to declare abortion is murder. Instead of relying on the Republican party platform to make a difference, put your stock in trustworthy organizations that are actually doing something to change hearts and minds.

Will God change His mind and once again bless America?

I don’t think so. I really think that ship has sailed. He was extremely patient with us. We have no one to blame but ourselves. But we can still finish the race, fight the good fight. There is still time for us to turn once again to our Creator and repent of our apathy and sin and selfishness and conceit and pride. Revival can return to American Christianity if only American Christians will return to God. Sadly, I think we’re all still too comfortable. Still too complacent, still too apathetic. And as long as that is the case, we still remain an abomination in the eyes of God.
