It is common misconception that the “New Atheist Movement” is the same as Militant Atheism. The so called leaders of this movement have made their reasons clear as to why they are being so proactive with their atheism. What they are dong is spreading knowledge from their respective fields, which most of the time is science.
Not only is this seen as blasphemous in some people’s eyes, but it is also seen as spreading hate because it goes against the teachings of certain people’s religions. One way of thinking about it is if one person believes that they were abducted by aliens. They are one hundred percent sure they were. Imagine someone going around saying that Aliens are not real, therefore, being abducted is not possible. How do you think that person feels?
What’s going on in this society?
First, small minorities of extremists (Christian, Muslim, etc) have had such huge impacts on society. In Texas, they re-introduced spanking in schools, Creationism, and icky immigration proposals. Muslim extremists have silenced many people with threats of violence. Some examples include the assassination of the Dutch cartoonist, the censorship of a South Park episode depicting the Muslim prophet, Mohammad and the threat of death to a Liberal talk show host in New York. So, you say ‘That’s only a few small instances.’ Well, these small instances are making a huge impact on society. Do we really want our kids being taught faith in schools?
How does this stop any other wacko who comes up with a new religion that he wants his religion taught in school (The Church of the Spaghetti Monster). Oh, that’s right, we wouldn’t allow something like that because that’s just nonsense…oh, really?
More liberal religious groups are said to masks the true intent of their religion
Second, the more liberal religious groups are said to masks the true intent of their religion. If you look through all of the Holy Books of each religion, they all promote war, violence and death against each other. The liberals, however, have undergone a cultural evolution where those things are no longer acceptable. This leads them to spreading an inaccurate account of “God’s Plan” that may not be interpreted the same by people from other countries.
So, we should not look at this new movement as an attack on religion. It’s not. It’s new enlightenment. And as my Christian friends say, God is so big he doesn’t need protection or defending. So, if he really is as powerful as he says he is, then “he” will change it.
